Prelim task group: Maggie Campbell, Simon Smith
Alice Gamble, Leila Toulmin
I’m my group we decided that we were going to make the clip mysterious, the audiences would know it was about a gun but not what it was for or the reason behind having it so it was all very basic visually. Leila and my self played the two characters, character A and character B, A was the dominant character. A was played by Leila and B the weaker character was played by myself. The script basing on a wonting B to do something but B can’t so A leaves. We shot the whole clip thought once then we broke it down to try different camera shots and angles, e.g. close ups, over the shoulder shots and mid shots.
What did I enjoy and why?
I enjoyed this clip because I think we all worked well as a group, also the clip was very dramatic which is nice to play with because you can do so many different things with it.
What do I feel I learnt about process of making a film?
I learnt that it’s not just the actors standing there being filmed that makes a film look good. There is a lot more that has to be considered for example the height of the camera, the exposure, the 180 degree rule, white balance. I learnt that there is more going on behind the camera then in front of it.
What did I like least about filming?
The fact that is was so time consuming and how many times we had to redo such small things just because of small mistakes such as no standing directly on my maker, four an hours work just get 3 minuets of footage.
How did I work in a group? Do I think everyone contributed? How would I rate my own contribution?
I think as a group we all work really well, at first we sat down at a table and agreed on a final idea.
The people on camera were helping the actors; the actors were helping the people on camera so it all worked really well. I think every one added at least one of their own ideas to the filming, every one had there own rolls and I think as a team we all did really well. Towards the end we all got a little stressful because we were running short on time but we got on with it and got the footage we needed.
I think made a fair contribution to the work but I found it more difficult to give ideas as I wasn’t behind the camera so I couldn’t see what needed to be changed as much as the people behind it.
Even to Leila’s and myself disadvantage I think we contributed some good camera angles and shots.
What would I have done differently if I had the chance to do it again?
Honestly I think it worked really well and the only thing I would change was where we set the scene up in the media room, as I think it detracted from the footage.
How did my choice of location and props affect your sequence of the shot?
The location wasn’t our ideal place to film but we didn’t have to compromise the scene which made film less complicated. Our only prop was a small hand gun which was the mane part of our clip but I don’t think it took control of the filming.
Did I get a chance to film any additional shots? If so, what shots were they and why did you choose them?
We started with a wide shot of the hole thing though. Then an over the shoulder shot on A and B, then a close up on the gun followed by to close ups of A and Bs faces. Then a mid shot of A leavening the room, finishing with to extreme close ups of A and B.
Explain exactly what you did in the group e.g.
What shot I filmed, how I directed, managed continuity?
Simon, Alice and Maggie filmed and directed. Leila and I managed were also continuity and the actors but we all worked together to make are filming flow well.

Children Of Men Poster Analysis
Analysis of 'Children of Men'. Poster
We looked at the man who seems to play a big part in the movie or have some significance or he wouldn’t be on the cover, so we know he has a part to play in the movie. We see him behind broken glass looking very unscrupulous with his messy hair and stubble. This suggest that something has happened which as prevented him from his probably day task of shaving, cleaning his face and even brushing his hair. He being behind the glass and not in front of it suggests some sort of not only physical but mental brayer, which he has managed to break though. In the poster we see a ruff edge of the glass around his face, but one particular edge is shaped like a knife and right next to his throat. This could be metaphorical, suggesting danger or even death.
The first thing we see is the deep red writing as the colour draws you eye in suggesting blood ,death or even a warning , then to his eyes this could be for a few reason. 1 being in the u.k we read left to write so to see the writing on the left then you eyes flow to the right where his eyes are on a similar level. It could be that his eyes looked very determined and are framed by the glass. Then we look on to see the title of the film, like going on to the next line of a book you start from left to write. Then last we see the glass pointing at his throat, it’s not obvious at first but is still noticeable.
The light coming from the corner of the poster could symbolizes a lot of things, in contrast to the red writing meaning danger it could mean there is hope. The light in the corner almost looks like it speeding over the page, as to say there has been darkness but now there is light.
Instead of him looking afraid he look determined as if he’s not scared of what’s surrounding him or what’s happening.
I think this poster is composed well, it shows a lot of literal and metaphorical messages.
Very powerful poster full of contrasting meanings. However it is also aesthetically pleasing. By applying to the rule of thirds, good lighting , it has peruse and meaning and it well composed.

My analysis of an AS thriller
Presence
Presence starts with three short clips of a very old looking house giving the idea that it’s going to lead on to something scary or mysterious. At the start on the gate post it says private and the gates are wide open, which implies that no one or nothing should be in there. The music for these first three clips is well done, it starts as an eerie wind leading into a soft but almost intimidating sound as it gets louder. The way these clips have been shot, they have been done at a similar angle as if you were looking up at the building, like it were leaning over you. The lighting is very weak, there are no bright colours and not very many contrasts, so it all seems very empty and almost faded as if it wasn’t meant to be there at all.
Leading into a dark room with an open door and going though the other rooms again gives a feeling of emptiness, meanwhile the music is still growing in the background. The dead flies to me makes it seem as if no one has been there for a very long time because of the number of flies but also a feeling of imprisonment as if they became trapped in the house.
When the window comes into the frame it gives a feeling of fading hope as the main protagonist, possibly a tramp, is moving out of the light into the dark.
When she enters the bathroom wearing mostly dark colours it implies that she as alone and mysterious as the house is itself, this shows similarities between the two. The way camera moves around the door frame as if someone was watching.
When she’s washing her face all the doors and windows start to slam shut. The doors give off sharp sudden bangs which echo as if the sound was travelling even closer towards her. When everything starts to close it feels like it’s cutting out all light and life completely, giving a feeling it is all coming to an end, a sort of ironic closure. When she lifts her head she sees her blood in the sink, I think her reaction was weak as if she wasn’t that shocked. Red is the only colour we have had throughout these pieces of footage but red is a very dark associated colour.
The only time we hear words is when she calls “hello” in a way as if she was trying to assure her dominance but she is still afraid. Again the lighting is still very dark. As the slamming of the door gets louder and louder it builds tension and suspense which is what every good thriller needs to work effectively.
When the last door closes it seems as if there is no way out and again being trapped like the flies which ended up dead. As she turns back and looks in the mirror she sees a dark figure holding her dead body. The figure having no face and being black gives a sense of evil but also mystery. Ending on this I think for a film trailer was good as it gives suspense and creates a cliff hanger which makes people want to see more, so I think it sells itself well.
Overall it was very good, there were only two things I could point out as faults, she wasn’t very shocked by the blood and when the doors were slamming she didn’t seem as scared as she should have been.
