Research

We have researched into our target audience of 15-25 year old and from our research we have discovered a number of facts
    Boys
    • Want a film that is exciting
    • Their favourite genres are thrillers
    • They are influenced by what their friends say when watching a film
    • Like watching films that are realistic.
    Girls
    • Most want a film that makes them think about something
    • And attractive lead actor or actress.
    • They are interested in how the trailer represents the film before deciding to watch it
    25-55 year olds we interviewed
    • Like films that are believable
    • Favourite genres are sci-fi and thriller
    • What the film critics say helps them decide what to watch
    • They want a film that makes them think about life.

    Thriller Research

For media, we had to interview people on our mobile phones (I had to use my roommates as my Nokia cannot film videos) and instead of uploading all of the videos separately, I decided to edit all of my clips into one interview. After listening to what people have said, I think we can say that our thriller opening scene ticks most of the boxes that people have asked for.

    Asperger Syndrome Characteristics Research

    Behaviour

"They may feel different and can experience anxiety when approaching other teens, always wondering why they have such a hard time fitting in. Trying to fit in can be a frustrating process and teens with Aspergers can be drained emotionally from this. It can cause anxiety or depression and may lead to social withdrawal. They may also be immature for their age, too naive and too trusting, which makes them an easy target for teasing and bullying."

The fact that teens with Aspergers have a hard time fitting in and finding friends. feeling anxiety when approaching other teens their age leading to social withdrawal may explain why the boy is in his room when we see him in the title sequence, through out the breaking of the code he is secluded in his bedroom, because he doesn't feel comfortable and confident enough to socialise with anyone his age.

    Challenges in School

"Asperger Teens develop their thinking and learning skills at an unusual age or in an unusual way because their brain processes information differently. This means they can excel in some abilities like language, vocabulary, math or music but are delayed in other areas. They may have problems with authority figures such as teachers."

This could explain why the boy hacks into the FBI mainframe, as he has problems with authority fugures especially as this is an undercover organisation, possessing control over the country. The fact that people with Aspergers are often very good at a particular subject leads us to believe the boy is very gifted in the subject ICT and explains why he is skilled at breaking this code as his mind works in an unusual way, processing information differently.

    Strengths

"Asperger teens are typically uninterested in following social norms, fads, or conventional thinking. They are original and creative thinkers and are in persuit for original interests and goals. Their preference for rules and honesty may lead them to excel in the classroom since many of their advanced abilities are in the gifted range. Their narrow area of interest can make them experts in their field. They can be talented and enjoy academic success. Their dedication and commitment makes them driven to perform well in school. Many great scientists, writers and artists are thought to have had Asperger syndrome, including many Nobel Prize winners."

The factthat teens with Aspergers are uninterested in following social norms explains why the boy is intrigued by the code and therefore works to crack it and succeeds.

     Theory of Mind

"The absence of the ability to understand what people know, think or feel might be the root of most difficulties people with Asperger have in communication and social interaction. They also can’t link their own behavior to the feelings of others so they can be unable to anticipate or predict such a response. Those with Asperger Syndrome have a very good eye for details but are most of the time are unable to see the "big picture"."

As people with Aspergers can't link their own behaviour to other peoples feelings therefore failing to anticipate a response explains why the boy writes such a bold statement on the FBI mainframe when hacking into as he does not think about the consequences at the time and is not able to predict a response from the receivers of the message. The fact that people with Aspergers see detail but not the big picture explains why the boy notices all the different hints leading him onwards to crack the code.

    Creating our own Title Sequence

After researching Kyle Cooper it has inspired me to want to incorporate some of his techniques used in his work into my groups own title sequence for our thriller.
Since our thriller is based on the idea of an autistic teenaged boy surfing the net and coming across an error page displaying a code in which he uses to hack into the FBI headquarters, our title sequence should probably include computers. The teenaged boy is supposedly fascinated by computers and gadgets therefore at the start of the thriller I imagine there to be seperate shots of the boy's hands typing, close ups of the keyboard and his fingers tapping away perhaps breaking the code and foreshadowing what is to happen later on in the thriller but still keeping the boys identity anonymous as the main aim is to secure an air of mystery just as Cooper did with the title sequence of Se7en. I can imagine the shots will be edited to a blue tint or simply just incorporate dim lighting. This will enhance the dramatic atmosphere and increase the intensitiy of the beginning of the film. The clips will be fast paced which will symbolise and set the pace of the rest of the movie. The non-diegetic music I imagine there to be through out the title sequence is a constant rhythmic beep to set a beat in which the action can conform to along with a whirring sound which can represent more technology as well as having the effect of creating an eerie atmosphere. The beat can also symbolise the racing heartbeat of the boy as he comes closer to breaking the code or it may represent machinery and gadgets as the boy is obessed with computers. The credits can appear on screen in an effective way since the boy is typing on his laptop one of the shots can show the screen and the typing of a member of the crew's name. Also another way in which the credits can appear is by a code being broken on screen, such as the binary code, to reveal a member of the cast's name. This will give the audience an idea of the ability the boy has and what happens in the movie. Since the main focus of the thriller is technology the opening sequence will have to be editing smoothly together as if a piece of the boys desired high tech machinery has produced it.

    Back to the Drawing Board...

After our failure of our first final idea, our group had to move forward and develop a different idea.

Therefore we came up with a different storyline under the sub genre of Conspiracy Thrillers. I have added details to the storyline that slightly differ from the rest of the groups versions but I believe this adds a realistic element to the opening scene.

The basic opening scene involves an autistic teenage boy on his laptop on the social networking site, Facebook. He is scrolling down his home page when he sees an advert on the side of the screen which is advertising a computer product. Since the boy is very interested in technology and gadgets his attention is easily diverted towards this. When he clicks on this advert a page of links and codes appears which he is intrigued by and starts to connect links between the numbers. There will be close up shots of certain numbers and letters of the codes which will then be followed by a montage showing the boy typing frantically, a close up of his eyes darting around the screen, more close ups of the numbers on the screen and then suddenly the screen changes to show the FBI headquarters. Then the screen will fade to black and the title will role. The storyline is very much based on the Gary McKinnon incident of him hacking into US military and NASA computers using the name 'Solo'.

We found inspiration from the movie 'Mercury Rising' as the little boy in the film is autistic and is able to break codes also and therefore becomes the focus of the plot because he hacks into the FBI mainframe.

    Kyle Cooper

    Kyle Cooper

Kyle Cooper is a modern designer of motion picture title sequences and he studied graphic design at Yale university. He got his inspiration from Saul Bass, and follows in Saul Bass's foot prints. Kyle Cooper is an award winning, modern film maker who specialises in the production of opening titles.Kyle Cooper has directed over 150 film title sequences, and has been credited with "almost single-handedly revitalizing the main-title sequence as an art form . He wrote many films such as Spider Man, Sherlock Holmes, TRON, the lost world and one of his best the thriller se7en. Cooper worked at an advertising agency with offices in New York and Los Angeles. During this period, this is where he created the title sequence for the 1995 film Se7en.

Se7en is a psychological thriller film, which also contains horror elements that makes the film memorable. The director uses close up shots in the whole of the opening scene, this is not to reveal the person who is probabley going to have a signicant role to play in the film. By the director choosing to only focus on the shot close up only ever really reveling his hands give a sence of mystery, this intreges the ardiance to watch the film so they are able know and put the final peice to the puzzle in place. We arnt give much information about the man himself , the idea is implyed that he is studying somting we see this from him writing in down in book , developing photos . However we are givin the idea that he my als have some sort of evil or possibly mental mentalilty due to him taking skin from his own fingers, sticking hocks to a page and photo of people who aper to be dead with somthing pircing in the back of his head.the small amount we get to see of him we can tell his hands are dirty and so is the airea hes working in.the music being played is

The film is about the se7en deadly sins gluttony, envy, lust, pride, sloth, greed and wrath. The titles and the directors names are always flashing on and quite jerky which keeps the audience interested and it could represent the characters life and what he is feeling like. The words are always moving which could also represent the movement of his life.
